SWAP – App

Project Overview

As part of our UI/UX course at John Bryce, my team and I worked on the development of SWAP – an innovative application that connects people who have money but lack of time with those who have time and want to earn. The platform allows anyone to post a task – whether it is a small repair, running errands, help with work, or other daily needs – and offer a payment for its completion. Others can accept and perform these tasks, creating new opportunities for flexible income. Our goal was not only to design an intuitive interface but also to deliver a complete product experience. By doing so SWAP has the potential to diversify the traditional labor market and empower individuals to work on their own terms, with freedom and independence.

Defining the Vision

Idea

The app connects people who have money but no time – with people who have time and want to earn. Anyone can post a task to be done (like a small repair, errands, help with work or anything else) and offer an amount. People who are a good fit for them – do it and earn. The app has the potential to diversify the traditional job market as we know it today, and give back power to employees by providing opportunities to earn on their own terms and time, independent of organizations and recruitment processes.

The app can solve many problems that people face on a daily basis

Lack of time – many people say that they don’t have time. Whether they are parents, students or pursue a career. We all have the same amount of time and some of us would like to use their time for things other than errands, waiting in queues or shopping.

On the other hand, there are many people such as students, retirees, veterans, teenagers who are looking for additional income or flexible work on their own terms. The app affords them a flexible, fast, non-binding source of income based on what they choose. The job market today is a market of employers. There are many requirements, long recruitment processes, absorption procedures and commitments. This is a rigid and strict market of employment. There are many requirements, long recruitment processes, absorption processes and commitments. This is a rigid and strict market in employment.

Swot Analysis

Strengths
Weaknesses
Opportunities
Threats
A large two - sided market. There is demand from those with money and those with time/job seekers.
Need for sufficient number of members/ users – the application is only effective if there is a high number of users on both sides in each region.
Personal finance growth – creating side income with full flexibility. The app allows people to control their time and employment, and independence from the traditional and unstable market.
Tightening regulation – authorities may require licensing, and increase bureaucracy.
Simple to understand business model - “Work-for-pay” without long contracts or recruitment processes.
Possible regulation and tax payments – there may be a requirement to report opening a business case with the authorities.
Providing help to the elderly and disabled, increasing engagement, great potential to reach people who need help. Expands the social and business usability of the app, creates added value and an image advantage including the environmental, social and governance(ESG).
There may be the entry of large new players with high marketing budgets.
Complete flexibility for promoters and bookers (choice of time, location and payment method and amount ).
Dependence on mutual trust – not everyone will want to invite a stranger home.
On the other hand, it is also an opportunity for pensioners and people with disabilities who are looking for income but cannot find it in the shrinking labor market.
Security and privacy issues – concerns about storing location data and personal information. Fraud or negative experiences may arise. External risk that can lead to fines, regulation and reputational damage.
Quick and easy to use process - post a job, quote, pay.
Customer service and dispute resolution may be required.
Expanding services allow professionals to reach new audiences and generate additional sources of income. This makes the platform versatile and different than competitors.
People can develop a dependency, waste money, users who develop an “addiction” to the service can create a wave of public criticism, and stricter regulation, which can damage the reputation of the app and create user and investor abandonment.
Secure payment via the app.
-
Strengthening trust and development of local communities - significant growth and differentiation potential.
An economic recession can affect the amount of money available to pay for tasks.
Full use of all native features of smartphone apps.
-
Potential collaborations with municipalities/communities and local benefits (insurance, discounts).
Local social media closed groups with trusted users.
Suitable for any age, location, gender - wide user audience.
There may be restrictions on age of workforce or day of work due to local regulations.
There are no competing Israeli apps.
-
User trust ratings that enable others to participate in more trust - intensive tasks. User Reviews.
-
Many people today are looking to become independent and earn money in non-traditional ways (permanent work in organizations).
-
Gamification through stages, medals, points.
Addiction risk

Dean decides to check it out.
What made him sign up?
Recommendation from a friend (trust)
Desire to earn money on the side without commitment

He receives a notification: “2 more tasks available near you.”
He shares with his other friend in the group:
“Bro, it really worked, I made 60 NIS an hour. Easy.”
Did he achieve his goal?
Yes, absolutely.
He started working immediately.
He received payment.
He is satisfied with the experience.

Late at night, Moshik sits in his office. He remembers to buy his mother’s medication when she calls, who is 78 years old. Moshik continues to work at the office, but he is unable to avoid purchasing the medication his mother requires. He recalls talking to an office worker who informed him about an app that finds people to run quick, minor errands. Although he can’t recall the name, he can recall the slogan, which goes something like “I have money, you have time.” He opens his smartphone an old Android and writes it down on Google. Curious but hesitant, he hopes it won’t be too difficult. He searches for an app right away, and with two clicks, he downloads it.Moshik launches the application and is presented with the start screen, which provides a basic tutorial on how to use it by swiping to the side. Moshik thinks it might work. He then lands on the screen for registration. He notices multiple fields there. He understands that he must now use the keyboard on his smartphone to type a variety of details, which he dislikes. He is frustrated that he cannot find a direct route to the app without completing the fields. He tries to enter his email address slowly and with a lot of patience. Then he gets to the password field he does not have a password ready and he wants something easy and memorable. He types a password of several letters enters the other fields and clicks the “Register” button. A message immediately pops up saying “Password too weak – you must enter 8 characters with uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers.” At this point Moshik gives up. Knowing that working at the office will lead to stress and issues tomorrow, Moshik ends the call and walks out to buy the medications by himself.

How could Moshe’s frustration have been resolved so that he wouldn’t abandon the site?

Instead of entering a password, users could be asked to enter only their phone number and receive a short 6-digit code to enter each time they need to log in. There would be no need to think of a password that is strong enough, remember it, and enter it every time.
The registration form could also be divided into several screens so that the process would seem easier and less like a registration form, but rather something that looks like part of the service explanation screens.

Flowcharts

The Steps in a Process

I created flowcharts illustrating the workflow for users seeking tasks to complete, providing a clear and structured overview of the application’s process.

Wireframes

Design

We started the project with sketches to explore different layout ideas. This step helped us visualize user flows, compare options, and choose the most effective direction before moving to wireframes

Information Architecture

Design

Shows the app’s main sections and their hierarchy. This structure makes navigation simple, clear, and efficient for the user.

Onboarding Process

Design

Before users begin searching for or posting tasks, the application provides a step-by-step walkthrough that clearly explains the workflow and required actions.

Search Process

Design

To enhance usability, each task listing is color-coded to indicate whether it is available immediately, within a few hours, or on another day. When the user clicks on a listing, they gain access to more detailed information, and only if they wish to apply they are required to register. This approach allows users to review opportunities before committing. Once an application is submitted, the user receives a notification within a few minutes confirming whether they have been approved.

Payment Process

Design

Upon completing a task, the screen displays the total amount earned, after which the application prompts the user to select a preferred payment method and enter the necessary details.

03 Design

Logo

Design

The logo concept is inspired by an Israeli saying: “one hand washes the other” which reflects the spirit of mutual assistance and reciprocity. The visual identity translates this idea into a symbol of two hands reaching toward one another, representing connection, collaborating.

Branding Color

Color Palette

The primary colors, white and blue, reflect clarity, trust, and the Israeli market focus. Supporting colors – green, yellow, and black – add balance, vibrancy, and contrast for a clear and engaging user experience.

Typography

Font Rubik

For the SWAP application and logo, the Rubik typeface was chosen as a result of its modern, geometric design and excellent readability across digital interfaces. Its clean yet approachable character reflects the app’s innovative spirit while maintaining a sense of trust and accessibility, making it highly suitable for both branding and user interface design.

Logo Usage

Branding Color

The logo is consistently applied in the brand’s color palette to ensure visual harmony and brand recognition. Using the defined colors strengthens the identity, maintains coherence across platforms, and creates a unified, professional appearance.

Logo Usage

Monochrome Color

The logo can also be applied in black and white to ensure versatility and clarity across different mediums. This version maintains brand recognition while providing flexibility for use in minimalistic designs, monochrome applications, or situations where color printing is not possible.

Pattern

Design

The idea for the pattern was inspired by the intertwining curves of the hands in the logo. This pattern was used in the onboarding background bringing a finished look to the overall design.

Brand language

Design

I created custom illustrations to be used in the onboarding process. Through the integration of subtle animations, these illustrations contribute to making the application more welcoming, engaging, and suitable for users from different ages

Final Outcome and Solution

SWAP App

The final outcome is a fully designed and user – friendly application that simplifies task management, enhances user experience and provides a clear, cohesive solution tailored to the needs of the target market.

Reflection and Learnings

SWAP App

Through this project, I really honed my skills in creating user flows, crafting intuitive interfaces, and grasping how thoughtful design choices can significantly enhance usability and overall user satisfaction.
